NC dept denies any Bosasa link

- SANDI KWON HOO CHIEF REPORTER

THE NORTHERN Cape Department of Sport,

Arts and Culture has denied doing any business with controversial company Bosasa/african Global Operations.

Explosive testimony regarding the payment of bribes to high-ranking politicians and government officials after receiving state tenders to the value of R12 billion for a period of over 15 years have been revealed during the state capture commission.

The provincial Department of Sport, Arts and Culture was mentioned, in the national media, as one of the beneficiaries from local government that had entered into contracts with the company.

The spokesperson for the provincial Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, Conrad Fortune, said that the department had no record of any business transactions with Bosasa or African Global Operations.

“There are also no current contractual agreements with them. We therefore find it strange that mention is made of the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture in the Northern Cape. If there are documents available indicating that the department has done business with Bosasa then we will then look further into the matter. However, as a department we pride ourselves in being transparent, accountable and implement the financial policies and framework of government when entering into any contractual agreements, tenders and daily supply chain procurement matters,” said Fortune.
