Premier Sylvia Lucas and MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture Bongiwe Mbinqo-gigaba will open a multi-purpose sports facility in Carolusber­g in the Namakwa district today at 10am.

They will also launch two libraries in Warrenton and Kuruman and another multi-purpose sports facility in Warrenton later this month.

The spokespers­on for the provincial Department of Sports, Arts and Culture, Conrad Fortune, said that much-needed resources, including wi-fi, and sports such as mini soccer, netball, badminton, tennis, mini hockey and volleyball would be offered at these centres. UPINGTON Premier Sylvia Lucas will open the state-of-theart Karos Primary School outside Upington tomorrow at 10am.

The head of communicat­ions at the Department of Education, Lehuma Ntuane, said that the multimilli­on-rand school, which is situated in Karos village, is equipped with 14 classrooms, two early childhood developmen­t classrooms, a science lab, nutrition centre, computer classroom, media centre and an administra­tion block.

Ntuane said another five new schools would be handed over this month.

He said sod turning ceremonies would be held for four new schools that would be built in the Frances Baard and John Taolo Gaetsewe districts, where the rise in pupil numbers are the highest in the Province.

The mlab Northern Cape’s Digital Empowermen­t graduation ceremony will be held today at the mlab co-working lab at the Galeshewe SMME village.

Graduates will also be presenting their websites, social media strategies and branding materials at the event.

The programme, which was developed in collaborat­ion with the Department of Social Developmen­t, provides unemployed youths with basic digital skills, including Wordpress Website developmen­t, social media management and designing marketing material.

The graduates will share their knowledge and skills in the five districts of the Province.

Sinatehmba Dick, 36, was sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonme­nt in the in the Colesberg Regional Court on April 10 after he was found guilty of raping a 50-year-old woman in Kuyasa, near Colesberg on May 27.

Police spokespers­on Captain Sergio Kock said Dick was arrested two days after the incident after he was linked to the crime through DNA testing.
