‘Special’ capping ceremony for cops
FIFTY police officers were capped by the Northern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant-general Risimati Shivuri, when they were promoted to different ranks yesterday.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Mohale Ramatseba said that the officials would take to their respective offices at the beginning of next month.
“The provincial commissioner capped members holding the ranks of captain, lieutenant-colonel and colonel during a special capping ceremony, the first of its kind, at the Kimberley Police Station. The members were recently promoted and will take up their official duties in their respective positions on November 1, 2019.”
Shivuri told the police members that their appointments were based on, but not limited to, experience and competence.
He emphasised that officers should act accordingly and honour the badge at all times.
Shivuri also advised the members to not only be concerned about the well-being of civilians but also their own well-being.
“Lieutenant-general Shivuri urged the newly-appointed commissioned officers to find new strategies in curbing cybercrimes in the midst of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
“As October marks Mental Health Awareness Month, the commissioner pointed out the suicide rate within the organisation and advised members to take initiatives to ensure that the mental well-being of colleagues was given as much priority as their official duties,” Ramatseba said.
