‘Improved’ Griquas to take on the Pumas

- DAVE ALEXANDER

THE TAFEL Lager Griquas travel to Nelspruit tonight for their second Carling Currie Cup fixture and will face the Phalisa Pumas at 7pm.

Griquas have improved considerably during their last four games and hope that today’s one will be no exception. They have been hard at work sorting out their mistakes during their shortened match against the Xerox Lions at Tafel Lager Park, where they went down 20-17, after playing only 5 minutes in the second half.

That is when the Lions were awarded a penalty try following some ill discipline, which cost Griquas the match.

There is only one change to the starting line up with Gideon van der Merwe out due to injury. He will be replaced by CJ Velleman, while Zandre Jordaan and Ashlon Davids come onto the bench.

“We want to make sure that we continue to improve against some of the top teams and will put the Pumas under a lot of pressure,” coach Scott Mathie, said.

“Each week we are getting better and better so it’s important for me to continue the process of improvement. It is a big game for us and it is important that we just take each moment in the game as a separate moment and try to win each one of them.”
