AVOID BEING SCAMMED THIS FESTIVE SEASON
The Central Supplier Database (CSD) and etenders are systems developed in line with the State of the Nation Address (SONA) priorities in 2015. The directive from the 2015 SONA was to simplify and reduce the cost of doing business for suppliers when transacting with government. This led to the development of both the CSD (effective in 2017) and the etenders portal in consultation with other stakeholders.
Regrettably, suppliers suffer further losses as a result of scams that tend to rise during the festive season. These losses due to scams can be attributed to different causes.
New government priorities will be announced in the 2021 SONA in February followed by the Budget Tabling in the same month.
THE CENTRAL SUPPLIER DATABASE (CSD) - https://secure.csd.gov.za/
The CSD is a tool used by all government entities to search and identify suppliers that can be approached to procure goods and services. The CSD is aimed at reducing the paperwork and cost by interfacing with relevant institutions on the minimum compliance requirements (Identity number, company registrations, tax records and banking information, etc.)
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
THAT SUPPLIERS SHOULD KNOW
The CSD is a compliance system and it does not rotate suppliers. Suppliers who are not registered and/or non-compliant with CSD are limiting their chances of doing business with government;
The selection of suppliers on the CSD is based on the commodities/ services they are registered for;
It is important for the supplier to maintain their CSD compliance status for verification at different transacting stages by government entities; Suppliers must “submit” their information for verification on the CSD after capturing or amending the information. If the information is verified, an MAAA number will be issued immediately;
If the system issues an R000 after registration, suppliers must return to their profiles and ensure that they click the “SUBMIT” button for all the changes made to the profile.
