Cruiser 200 tops the luxury charts

-

Don’t let anyone tell you everybody is struggling financially in this country, because if you take a look at the sales figures of luxury SUVs in South Africa, it is obvious that there’s still a healthy appetite for these vehicles. The biggest surprise to some might be that the winner is the Toyota Land Cruiser 200, of which a whole 150 were sold in January. And only the BMW X5 (121 sold) beat the next Toyota, the Land Cruiser Prado, which sold 106 units. The “cheaper” Land Rover Discovery sold better (100 units) than the more expensive Range Rover Sport, of which 77 were sold. And their sister company Jaguar can feel quite chuffed with their new F-Pace, the company's first SUV, that sold 84 in the same period. Not bad for a newcomer to this segment. Interestingly the Lexus LX, which is just a shinier, more expensive version of the Land Cruiser 200, was in eighth place with 36 units, which proves that the 200 Cruiser is probably better value for money. Oddly enough the brilliant Volvo XC90, our reigning Luxury 4x4 of the Year, as well as SA Car of the Year, sold a relatively humble 35 units in the same period, proving the brand loyalty amongst local buyers.
