I WANT TO GO TOO!
DO I NEED A 4X4? The Magoebaskloof Pass between Tzaneen and Haenertsburg is tarred, but most of the other roads in the valley are dirt. For these you preferably need a 4x4, especially because the roads can turn into a muddy mess when it rains. A 4x2 is not advisable because the lack of traction wears out the roads that the residents use on a daily basis, forcing regular costly maintenance. WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO GO? September to April to avoid plunging winter temperatures, but bear in mind that this is a summer rain area. HOW MUCH TIME DO I NEED? Magoebaskloof is about 4 hours away from Johannesburg, which makes it possible to visit on a weekend. There is a lot to do in the area, so you’ll either have to spend at least a week – or come back again to give yourself time to explore it some more. NEAREST SHOPS AND FUEL STATION? Haenertsburg has a fuel station (with 50 ppm diesel), a small supermarket, liquor store and restaurants. Tzaneen, about 40 km away, has a shopping mall, car dealerships and a hospital.
