Dicky Swanich from Mossel Bay is always up for any task. He shows us his Hilux bakkie, modified almost completely by himself, in this month’s My Wheels.

Do you plan your trips in detail or just go with the flow?

I usually do the first part with a guided tour but prefer to do the second part without any planning of routes and so on. If we like a place, we stay longer, and vice versa.

The best place you’ve ever visited?

Botswana!

What is your number one travel tip?

Always pack for the worst-case scenario, so take extra water, gear, etc. And make sure you have enough ice!

Which destination in Southern Africa would you like to visit?

Mozambique.

What music do you listen to on the road?

I’m a big fan of music, especially Afrikaans and boere music.

On my bucket list…

I’d really like to drive all the way from Cape Town to Egypt.
