Go! Drive & Camp

I WANT TO GO TOO!

-

BEST TIME TO GO? September to March. The temperature drops quite low in the winter and if it rains some of the gravel roads could wash away. DO I NEED A 4X4? Between the Nuwekloof Pass and Geelhoutbos you’ll be alright in a sedan, but in the national park between Geelhoutbos and Patensie you definitely need a 4x4 with diff lock and good ground clearance. WHERE CAN I FILL UP? There is no fuel available in the Baviaanskloof. Your nearest fuel stations are in Willowmore, Patensie, Steytlerville and Kareedouw. WHERE CAN I BUY SUPPLIES? Most of the overnight places in the Baviaanskloof are self-catering. There are two general dealers with basic supplies, the BaviJAANS farmstall that sells sandwiches and coffee, and at Vero’s you can buy vetkoek. It is, however, better to come prepared for the duration of your stay. The nearest supermarkets are in Willowmore and Patensie. CAN I USE MY CARD TO PAY? No. You need to take enough cash for everything that you want to buy in the Baviaanskloof. There are no ATMs or card facilities. IS THERE CELLPHONE RECEPTION? There is no phone signal in the Baviaanskloof. Some of the accommodation options do have WiFi.
