Go! Drive & Camp

WHAT TO KNOW BEFORE YOU GO

-

• Don’t drive without having Tracks4Africa on your GPS, as well as their printed map of Botswana. If the maps say it’ll take you five hours to drive 100 km, believe it. When you make a booking at the parks and reserves, make sure they book one campsite for all the nights. At Savuti we had to move 60 m to another campsite on the last night. A satellite phone in Botswana is a must. There is no cellphone reception away from the tar roads. Make sure what the rules are for transporting meat. During our tour we were allowed to transport meat to the north and west but not to the south and east. Making a booking directly with the reserves can be tricky, especially in terms of payment. We used the agency NDM Travel. Their service is super fast. On the 4x4 Community forum there are a lot of hardcore guys who’ve been to Botswana numerous times and are ready to give advice.
