A MOTHER OF A POTTY OR TWO

-

When comfort is a priority for everyone in the family, a portable all-in-one toilet is just the thing. There are a few options available that are all basically the same: a plastic container with a toilet seat on top. There is a tank at the bottom that collects waste products, and most can flush to eliminate any odours. The chemical fluids that are used are very important. The first is the distinctive blue liquid. The object of this is to start with the organic breakdown of the waste products and converting everything into liquid. It prevents the development of odours and also makes the throwing-away process easier. Just ensure that you use the right fluid if you plan on emptying the potty into a septic tank. Because a septic tank already contains chemicals, you have to choose something that won’t interfere with the operations. The other fluid that’s available is for models that can flush. It’s basically mixed with water to ensure that the toilet bowl empties with every push or pump of the button (there are no handles or chains to pull). The disposal of that which remains in the tank must only be done in approved spots. Most camp terrains have a place like that. But don’t throw it out anywhere in the bush. You certainly don’t want to see a springbok with blue lips and tongue the next time you’re driving in the Kruger National Park.
