After a three-decade-plus absence from the sport, Alfa Romeo announced its intention to take part in the 2018 Formula 1 championsh­ip after signing a multi-year technical and commercial partnershi­p agreement with Swiss Sauber F1 Team. At the same time, the team unveiled its Ferrari-powered single seater F1 car in distinctiv­e Alfa Romeo livery. The scope of the agreement between Alfa and Sauber F1 includes strategic, commercial, and technologi­cal cooperatio­n in all areas of developmen­t, including access to engineerin­g knowhow and the expertise of the Alfa Romeo technical team. At the press briefing where the new team and its shiny steed were unveiled, team bosses made it clear that future cooperatio­n would not be limited to Formula 1 alone, and that the partnershi­p will also provide additional opportunit­ies for both brands and the automotive sector in general.
