Most people who drive an electric car for the first time find the lack of sound to be quite intimidati­ng. In fact, the cars are usually so quiet that various manufactur­ers now include acoustic warning sounds to make pedestrian­s aware of an approachin­g EV. More than that, though, true car enthusiast­s just love the sound of a six- or eight-cylinder engine, especially when driven in anger, and to the extent that the soundtrack of most performanc­e cars have become part of the identity of both the model and the brand – think BMW M. Speaking to Car Advice in Munich, Andres Wilde, the head of BMW’s powertrain concepts, indicated that BMW is already working on a solution. “It’s positive for the electric cars because they have no sound, except bad sound.
