TOYOTA ELECTRIFIES MILLIONS

-

Following the announcement that Toyota and Panasonic have agreed to begin studying the feasibility of a joint automotive prismatic battery business, Toyota announced a new comprehensive plan to popularise electrified vehicles for the decade 2020-2030, with the aim of selling more than 5.5 million electrified vehicles, including 1 million zero-emission vehicles per year by 2030.

Toyota’s newly-announced electrified vehicle strategy centres on a significant acceleration in the development and launch of mostly hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs), complemented by plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles (HFCEVs) and, to a lesser extent, battery electric vehicles (BEVs). As such, zero-emissions vehicles would make up less than 8% of Toyota’s total projected production in 2030, and BEVs less than 4%.

While Toyota now aims to have electrified vehicles (mostly HEVs) available across the entire Toyota and Lexus line-up
