Ngwelezana Hospital rewards excellence

- Muzi Zincume

CIVIL servants should always strive for excellence when discharging their duties.

This sentiment was shared by Ngwelezana Church Pastor Sipho Mlangeni, delivering the keynote address last week at the Service Excellence Awards event organised by the Ngwelezana Hospital management.

‘You are working on behalf of the government, you account to the government and the government accounts to God. Fearing for your managers alone is not enough, you must also fear God,’ Mlangeni said.

‘Do not be found doing a disservice to thousands of your people whose lives depend on you as health practitioners, because you will have to answer to the Man above.’

The awards served to recognise hospital employees who have raised the bar in their work. Long service awards were also handed out.

The hospital’s Monitoring and Evaluation Manager, Jabu Nene, urged nursing staff and other hospital employees to view her department’s inspections in a positive light.

‘This is not done to torture you, but to improve our levels of commitment.

‘Our intention with this awards event is to reward good performance of individuals, departments and clinics to boost morale and encourage everyone to excel all the time,’ said Nene.

‘Recently we were recognised by the KZN Department of Health as the number one hospital in the province in waste management.

‘Effective waste management strategies and recycling help us to reduce expenditure.’
