eSikhaleni taxis a nightmare

- DISGRUNTLED COMMUTER

THERE is a major problem regarding eSikhaleni local taxis and their system to operate within the township.

As residents we have a challenge when we take taxis from one section to another.

Travelling from the J1 section to H2 or from the H2 section to J1 has now become a nightmare.

Taxis refuse to drop us at our sections and end the route at the shopping mall.

This is unacceptable especially because not everyone who takes a local taxi goes to the mall.

This means if we take a taxi from one section to another, we need to pay R10 instead of the original R5 because now we are required to take two taxis.

What makes matters worse is the fact that drivers become rude when we ask them to drop us at our sections, as it has always been.

They use vulgar language to pensioners and treat us like dirt and it’s not fair.

Drivers need to be told what are the actual rules and the manner in which they should refuse passengers.

We would appreciate it if eSikhawini Taxi Association (ETA) can make a decision on what is the rule when it comes to local taxis as we will not continue to tolerate this abuse and vulgarity from the drivers.

Ever since the township was built, we never had a problem with local taxis but since there is a mall now, drivers are always in a rush to drop people there and neglect the other commuters.

If this matter is not resolved and all local taxis keep doing what they are doing, as residents we will be forced to inform the provincial and South African National Taxi Council (Santaco), as we think this is just completely unacceptable.
