Flagship ASX gets makeover

Having received its Dynamic Shield front grille in February last year as well as a number of equipment revisions, Mitsubishi has applied even more updates to its long serving ASX, but only for the top spec GLS CVT.

On sale since 2011 with changes being restricted to aesthetics and standard spec, new additions to the model, known as the RVR in Japan, includes more chrome trim on the revised grille, redesigned bumpers with an imitation carbon fibre insert on the rear, standard daytime running LEDs, a faux diffuser, diamond cut 18-inch alloy wheels and LED rear fog lights.

Inside, the GLS gains an updated centre console, new seat design with red stitching, redesigned gear lever, upgraded materials, smartphone tray and dual USB ports.

Standard spec is otherwise unchanged and includes a touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth, keyless entry, heated leather front seats, cruise control, reverse camera with rear parking sensors, rain sense wipers, full-length panoramic roof and on the safety side, seven airbags, Hill Start Assist and Active Stability and Traction Control.

Power-wise, the ASX continues as is with the 2.0-litre normally aspirated petrol engine again producing 110kW and 197Nm, fed to the front wheels via the aforementioned six-step CVT with paddle shifters.

Fuel consumption is rated at 7.6-litres to 100km.

Included in the R399 995 price tag is a three-year/

100 000km warranty and fiveyear/90 000km service plan.
