the natural wonders of coconut oil

Coconut oil is one of my favourite things. It has heaps of benefits and helpful properties: it’s moisturising, antifungal and antibacterial. You can easily incorporate it into your beauty routine on a daily basis.

-

HERE’S HOW YOU CAN USE IT: 1)

It moisturises and nourishes the body, hands and feet.

2)

It acts as an effective, deep conditioner. Comb a R2 coin-sized dollop (more if you have thick hair) of oil through your hair and leave it on overnight. It’s best to wear a shower cap to bed to avoid messing up your pillow. You’ll love the soft, shiny results after shampooing. Alternatively, apply to the ends of your hair to add shine or to tame flyaways.

3)

It soothes irritated skin – use it under your arms and on your legs after shaving.

4)

It cleanses the skin and removes makeup. Smooth the oil onto your skin and remove any excess with your daily cleanser.

Q:

My hair is thinning at an alarming rate. Any advice? – Marcelle Christiane Millican

A:

Visit a trichologist, who will give you a clear diagnosis as to why your hair is falling out. In the meantime, it can’t hurt to switch up your shampoo – there are some great products specifically formulated to treat thinning hair. Visit www.plantur39.co.za for more information.

Q:

I have long hair that is thick and quite dry, and battle terribly with knots and tangles after I wash it no matter which conditioner I try. Do you have any recommendations? – Sivan Goren

A:

I also have thick hair, prone to knots and tangles, and all the bleaching sessions I’ve put my hair through over the past few years certainly haven’t helped. To sort out your detangling dilemmas, get a Tangle Teezer brush – it gets knots out in a jiffy and doesn’t hurt one bit. I can’t live without mine. Plus, they’re really easy to spot as they usually have bright colours and patterns. A great conditioner also works wonders.
