They produce artisanal table, kitchen and bed linens, throws, blankets, cushions and even towels using old-fashioned looms – some date back to the early ’80s; others are pre-Industrial Revolution! So why take such a big step back, technologically? ‘For one, the technology is simpler, and can be more cost-effective,’ says Mungo director Dax Holding. ‘We are also mindful of ensuring that the skill set doesn’t die off with the people who know how to run the old looms. The transfer of these skills is an art in itself.’
