BEAUTY SNOOP:
Sylvie Hurford’s must-have products
She’s one of the beauty industry greats. She’s done makeup for fashion shows and huge campaigns, and has worked on some of the most famous faces in the world (Solange Knowles for one).
If Sylvie Hurford had to choose one must-have product, it would be her Shu Uemura eyelash curler. ‘I can’t live without it!’ She says Allure magazine showed her how to curl her lashes.
‘My dad used to buy subscriptions for me for my birthday. It was my beauty bible. I discovered products like Rosebud lip salve and Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs through Allure.’
The secret behind Sylvie’s radiant complexion is a combination of Chanel’s Vitalumière Satin Fluid Makeup
and NARS’ blush in Orgasm.
‘If I had to use only three products for the rest of my life, it would be that blush, a product for brows and a lip balm.’ She stocks up on the blush when she goes abroad (NARS isn’t available in South Africa, sadly) and uses it down to the pan.
Over the past few years, Sylvie has been project-managing beauty campaigns for major retailers.
‘Ultimately, I want to make beauty more accessible, more meaningful and more inclusive. Globally, we have a skewed perception of what beauty is and it’s often associated with vanity. I loathe the Instagram culture – I’ve never liked retouching, and this filter generation is ridiculous. We need to see more models like Maye Musk being used in campaigns.’ Amen to that.
