TRIED & TESTED

There’s nothing quite like discovering a new beauty staple. Here’s what we trialled – and loved – this month.

The FAIRLADY team trials pick-me-up products

Africology Renewing Facial Therapy Serum, R690

My skin has been so dry and flaky lately, and nothing seemed to work. This blend of oils and marine algae extracts stimulates cell turnover, hydrates, and strengthens the skin. I usually apply it before bed or add a few drops to my moisturiser. It’s made a noticeable difference. – Liesl

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Capsule in Serum, R159,95

I am a BIG fan of Neutrogena products, and this serum definitely won me over. It fully hydrated my sensitive skin, leaving it feeling really smooth and looking radiant. I love that the serum isn’t sticky and oily, which makes it perfect for both morning and evening use. A great product for thirsty skin.

The Body Shop Vitamin C Glow-Protect Lotion SPF30, R250

A little of this goes a long way and it is absorbed quite easily, leaving just a thin protective layer of moisture on the surface of your skin to ensure that the SPF30 does its job. I absolutely love the fresh fruity smell, and my skin feels well moisturised and loads smoother – plus it’s protected from the sun. – Janine

NUXE White Daily UV Protector SPF30 PA +++, R570

I am active and outdoorsy, so this is perfect for me. The light, watery texture makes it a great makeup base, as you hardly feel there’s anything on your skin at all. The SPF with anti-pollution agent shea polyphenols also makes me feel confident that the product helps to prevent premature skin ageing.

Elizabeth Arden Vitamin C Ceramide Capsules Radiance Renewal Serum, R640 for 30 capsules, R1095 for 60

A dream for skin crying out for moisture and an instant glow-up! The satiny dry oil contains vitamin C (a natual protectant against freeradical damage) and ceramides. I suffer from hyperpigmentation and lacklustre skin, but after a single use my skin perked up. The capsules extend the two key ingredients’ longevity. Love it! – Lara

Avène Thermal Spring Water, R169,95

I think I’ve found a lifelong beauty staple.

The iconic (so I’ve learnt) Thermal Spring Water has made my skin extremely happy. The water comes from a secret well in France, and the light, soothing mist is as delicate as it is pure. I spritz it on after a day in the sun, as a makeup setting spray (it provides a lovely dewy finish) or to calm angry red spots. It also helps to remove makeup and refresh skin after a long day – a handbag essential. – Ashleigh

Flower by Kenzo, R1 445 for 50ml

There’s a reason Flower by Kenzo has been a bestseller for 20 years: the blend of blackberries and violets anchored by musk and vanilla is simply irresistible. I got my first whiff of it at a Kenzo event where we were given beautifully scented synthetic poppies. I’m not exaggerating when I say the flower was pressed to my nose all evening. This is definitely a new favourite. – Christina

Neutrogena Skin Detox Triple Micellar Water, R124,99 for 400ml

This is alcohol-free, fragrance-free, and tested by an ophthalmologist and dermatologist – all good things for my sensitive skin. After cleansing, I pour a few drops on a cotton pad, swipe, and my skin is thoroughly cleansed and radiant – no rinsing required. It even removes waterproof mascara! It’s one of the best micellar waters I’ve tried. – Crystal

Sukin Natural Hydrating Facial Masque, R209,99

My face has been feeling dry and tight, so I really needed extra hydration. After washing my face at night, I apply this creambased mask to my face, neck and décolletage. It’s rich in mango seed butter, avocado, olive fruit and jojoba oils, which provide intense hydration and protect the skin’s barrier. It is not sticky, and leaves my skin feeling hydrated, fresh and soft. It’s also all-natural and cruelty-free. – Charis
