FIRED UP
Starring Reese Witherspoon as Elena and Kerry Washington as Mia, the first episode of Little Fires Everywhere starts with Elena’s house going up in flames. The police suspect Elena’s youngest daughter, Izzie – she has a reputation as a troublemaker and is missing at the time of the blaze.
From there the narrative goes back to four months before the fire.
Elena meets Mia when she rents a property to her, after learning that Mia and her daughter had been sleeping in their car. She also hires Mia to work for her. Elena thinks she’s done a good deed, but then discovers that the reference on the rent application is false, and she starts to investigate why Mia lied.
Artist Mia never stays in one place for long. During one flashback, we see her sitting in a train compartment with a man, and she seems shaken by the memory.
I’ve watched two episodes so far and have so many questions. Is that man the reason she moves around a lot? Is he her daughter’s father or her ex-husband? Is he going to come after her? Did he burn down Elena’s house, or was it Elena’s daughter – and why? I can’t wait to see what happens next!
You can binge the whole series on Showmax from 1 July. – Crystal
