Is there a specific item in your wardrobe that is special to you?
I am lucky to have inherited many precious pieces from my mother and grandmother. All of my jewellery has been passed down from generation to generation. I have reinvented my mother’s glamorous evening gowns from the ’60s and ’70s, which I still wear to this day.
I am very sentimental and will pass these down to my daughter.
What item of clothing should every woman have in her closet?
A classic tailored white shirt is an essential – it can elevate any look. This will be one of the most versatile pieces in your closet. It can literally be paired with anything, from a suit to a skirt or a pair of jeans – the options are limitless. In these uncertain times, we are all budget conscious. Be true to yourself. Don’t go for trenddriven pieces; instead, carefully curate your wardrobe. Timeless, classic pieces will last you a lifetime.
Shoes or bags?
I refuse to answer – you’ve really put me on the spot! I am passionate about shoes and I have a collection which rivals Carrie Bradshaw’s. My love affair with shoes began in New York, when I invested in my first pair of gold brocade shoes by Manolo Blahnik. I purchased these with my very first pay cheque. I take good care of my shoes and have them resoled regularly. I’m very light on my feet so they last forever. Handbags are another weakness of mine. I have built up a grand collection, including some unique vintage pieces. The most important accessories in your wardrobe should be your handbags and shoes; they define your look. In my opinion, these are the pieces you should invest in. Elegant handbags and shoes will never let you down.
