Monitoring programme cnodntinues in KZN
As part of #OperationSiyahlola, the KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Department of Agriculture and Rural Development visited farms in the Harry Gwala District to observe the progress made in projects aimed at benefitting the communities in which they are based.
Department of Agriculture and Rural Development MEC Super Zuma conducted the visits as part of the KZN premier’s Siyahlola Monitoring Programme, which is aimed at improving the performance of government and making sure that people’s experience of government goods and services are pleasant, positive and one that leaves a lasting impression of government.
Speaking at one of the farms, Zuma said the Siyahlola Monitoring Programme allowed them as government of the province to witness first hand the impact of government policies in changing lives in the province for the better.
“Through this monitoring programme, we are embarking on an active, vigorous and ongoing campaign to police the policies of government.”
Zuma started the day at Pandarosa Farm in Ward 4, which specialises in grain and green peppers. The farm has created job opportunities for local people and the MEC commended the commitment displayed by both project leaders and the workers.
Zuma then proceeded to Bernhald Farm in Ward 10, which will soon be harvesting soya beans under the department’s Multi Planting Season Programme. The next stop was Mashumi, in Ward 13, where Zuma met a group of farmers who have been under mentorship and are now ready to focus on individual projects.
Their programme began in 2020 and has grown to 27 members.
The MEC’s final visit was to the Ndwebu Dip Tank in Ward 14. The dip tank, which is currently under construction, will be completed in April and will service a number of farmers in the area. –
