A NEW EATING EXPERIENCE
Twelve years after opening his first restaurant in Franschhoek, top SA chef Reuben Riffel has opened a new eatery.
Reuben’s Restaurant & Bar in Franschhoek’s Daniel Hugo Street is just a few minutes’ walk from Reuben’s, his first restaurant, but it offers an entirely new eating experience.
The glass entrance hall offers stunning views of the Franschhoek mountains on the one side and an impressive wine cellar on the other.
Guests have the choice of sitting in the main elegant restaurant area, or outside in the spacious courtyard. There is also a private dining room which can accommodate 16 people.
It is less formal than Reuben’s but much more sophisticated.
The menu offers a choice of small plates or starters which can be shared tapas-style or you can have a more traditional three-course meal. The menu is eclectic, with a lot of Asian influences and great local ingredients.
There is also a version of Riffel’s famous pork belly with chilli-caramel sauce as well as the chilli salted squid.
For the mains, look out for the springbok steak or braised beef oxtail and cheeks.
And the perfect desserts to round off these starters and mains are the lemon yuzu tart, spiced créme brûlée, warm chocolate fondant or a simple baked camembert.
