The essence of a boutique experience, especially when it involves money matters, is about far more than the financial results. Above-average returns, after all, are expected when the level of expertise and attention to detail are above what an average investor gets from a large money manager.

Brenthurst Wealth co-founder Magnus Heystek explains the firm’s approach in his typically blunt fashion: “We built this business knowing that we might not be the smartest and prettiest, but we’re going to be the best communicators in the independent financial adviser space.”

And results prove that the firm has stayed true to this maxim.

Brenthurst’s top executives pride themselves on a client retention rate above 95% since the business was established.

“We’ve lost very few clients over the years,” says company MD and co-founder Brian Butchart. “I think that boils down to the personal relationships advisers establish with clients, which are based on regular appointments and constant communication. The wisdom of prioritising client relationships is evident in Brenthurst’s performance at this year’s Intellidex Top Wealth Manager Awards. In addition to being named Top Boutique Wealth Manager, André Basson and Butchart were placed second and third in the Top Relationship Manager Award.

This follows Sonia du Plessis winning the inaugural Top Financial Adviser title at the 2019 Intellidex awards.

These accolades are significant given the sheer number of financial advisers in the country, and Brenthurst’s relative size compared with larger, more established outfits. The greatest value,
