Shell Kraaibosch honoured in New York

- Wessel van Heerden

Two employees of Shell Kraaibosch in George, Enoch Mvandaba and Raymond Pietersen, who never thought they would ever see America, have just arrived back from New York where they were honoured as the Shell Service champions of South Africa.

They cannot stop talking about their wonderful experience. With their tanks filled up, so to speak, they cannot wait to put their new skills and knowledge to the test.

Earlier this year Shell Kraaibosch Service Station was named the best Country Retailer of the Year and Shell Site of the Year in South Africa, which was part of Shell's People Make the Difference Real programme. For Shell Kraaibosch to win this award, they had to meet exacting standards with regard to sales, convenience, appearance, cleanliness, products, friendliness and customer service in general.

With this title under the belt they qualified to go to New York with 60 other Shell retailers from all over the world.

Morné Strauss, owner of Shell Kraaibosch, said, "It was a great experience to go to

New York with 60 Shell retailers from over the world. I am also proud that we could take two of our employees with. They had experiences that they never thought they would have. We also had the opportunity to go and watch a baseball game."

He noted that South African service delivery is definitely on a par with other countries. "We in South Africa compare to the best in the world."

A very humble Mvandaba said that it was an experience of a lifetime for him, "a real dream that came true".

He was named the best petrol attendant in South Africa. "I love working hard. When you work hard you will get the results. If you work hard you can go any place and anywhere. I also want to say thank you to my boss, Morné Strauss, who always pushes us to do better and gives us training."

Raymond Pietersen agreed that it was one of the best experiences in his life.

"It was great that I could have the opportunity to talk to other retailers in the world and hear how they do things operationally. It was a great honour for me to represent South Africa. We did a lot of sightseeing and we spoke to a lot of people there. I also want to thank Morné Strauss. I will be forever thankful towards him."

"We will always try to be on top of our game," promised Strauss.

I love working hard. When you work hard you will get the results.
