Open invite to the Southern Cape Art Exhibition
Excitement is mounting in art circles as artists prepare for the annual Visual Expressions South Cape Artists Exhibition. The exhibition opens at 17:30 on 9 August in the George Museum with a gala event and award ceremony during which
R10 000's worth of cash prizes will be handed over to category winners. The exhibition will be open to the public from 10 to 31 August. Each year there is an open invitation to all artists on the Garden Route to participate.
Andrew Barnard
The dramatic contemporary artwork of Sedgefield artist Andrew Barnard will be featured during the exhibition. He said this week, "Scava was the first competitive means I had to display my work as an artist. I feel privileged to exhibit among our exceptionally talented artists in the Southern Cape and can only see this prestigious event growing from strength to strength in the coming years."
Barnard says each artist has their own unique style which they develop over a period of time. "I find preparing for Scava each year exciting as I feel the event seems to get my creative juices flowing. The subject that I choose to paint is critical, as I always want my work to be unique and to be seen as just that. I enjoy working in oil. I have accepted patience has to be an integral part of the process, especially when working with layers to create a certain effect, look and/ or feel. This often results in amazing visuals, as unique shapes and textures simply appear. I am looking forward to the Scava awards and feel honoured to exhibit with such incredible artists. Please support this worthy occasion you most definitely will not be disappointed. We look forward to seeing you there!" The competition is organised by the South
Cape Association of Visual Arts (Scava) of which Maura St Johns was recently elected chairman. Entrants find the competition fee structure is designed to encourage artists to join as Scava members (at a fee of R200). Artists can hand in their submissions from Monday 31 July to Wednesday 2 August between 10:00 and 16:00.
