Audition now for the Young Musicians competition

-

The George Music Society organises a Young Musicians competition every year for all the schoolgoing musicians in the area.

Auditions for the competition will take place on Monday 28 and Tuesday 29 August. A prestigious and exciting Young Musicians Gala concert at which finalists compete for cash prizes and trophies will take place on Friday 15 September.

This event has become one of the music highlights of the school calendar. The Tuinedal Dutch Reformed Church will be used as the venue this year.

To make sure that the highest possible standard is maintained, highly qualified and experienced musicians are invited as adjudicators every year.

This year, two lecturers from the University of Cape Town who are experienced performers themselves will have the difficult task of choosing the finalists for the Gala concert.

The aim of the competition is to develop, expose and appreciate the talent of the music learners of George. Since the inception of the competition in 1985, many local talented participants have progressed from promising beginners to highly accomplished national and international performers.

Solo vocalists and instrumentalists such as violins, saxophones and piano take part, as well as vocal ensembles and instrumental ensembles performing classical, light classical and music from musicals.

One of the organisers, Sandra Tilbrook, said this week that a competition of such a high standard has benefited and inspired many young artists through the years.

Entry forms for potential participants are available from georgemusicsociety@ gmail.com. For more information contact Sandra Tilbrook at 083 389 2775 or sandra.tilbrook@gmail.com.
