Journo scoots off bike
George Herald journalist Myron Rabinowitz was the cause of a small drama at the Hope Street traffic circle when his scooter slid on a diesel spill on Tuesday afternoon. Rabinowitz, a familiar sight on his scooter about town, was underway from Pacaltsdorp to the George Herald factory building in Ring Road when the accident occurred. When editor Lizette da Silva arrived on the scene, flanked by two female colleagues, the former George councillor looked a sorry sight, sitting in the middle of the road. Rabinowitz came off lightly, sustaining only superficial graze wounds and sore muscles. The traffic had to negotiate around the injured journo, and it was touch and go or ANC Councillor Piet van der Hoven - famous for his parking skills (see last week's letters page) - arranged to have traffic cones put down around his friend. After a good examination by paramedics from Metro ambulance service and a visit to George MediClinic, Rabinowitz was back on his feet. He got orders from the editor to ditch his scooter for his car ... we have yet to see if he will abide.
