Praise for electricity officials’dedication

- Karen Marshall, Hoekwil:

On Monday 4 September, a pole in Bosbok Street, Hoekwil, collapsed in the wind, taking with it the wiring of the whole street, and a transformer just outside my home. This occurred at approximately 10:00. The technicians arrived at about noon since they had to assemble the material to repair the damage.

We were without power for the whole day and well into the night. At one stage I went out to offer the men some cool drink, and was told there was a team of 16! They continued working, sometimes in strong winds. I returned home in the dark, and found them still working, went to bed and woke at approximately midnight to find still no power. When I woke again at 04:00, the power had been restored. I don't know when. I wish to congratulate the electricity department and the men who worked here for hours, mostly in the dark, to restore power to our street. This involved planting a new pole, re-wiring and then drawing the new wires up the street to another transformer, a procedure that I understand was complex and time-consuming. Well done and thanks for such great service.
