Ge­or­ge Ma­yor Mel­vin Naik hos­ted Pro­gress Rugby Club at a con­g­ra­tu­la­to­ry e­vent af­ter their SWD Pre­mier Le­a­gue Cup win.

Naik con­g­ra­tu­la­ted the te­am on a well-de­ser­ved win and said their task of re­pre­sen­ting the w­ho­le of Ge­or­ge and SWD is a big re­spon­si­bi­li­ty. He as­ked the te­am and ma­na­ge­ment to stay fo­cu­sed on their next big go­al, the national Gold Cup, and wis­hed them well in the u­p­co­ming com­pe­ti­ti­on.

Ha­ving en­joy­ed the excellent per­for­man­ce of sin­ger/son­g­wri­ter Faith N­dukwa­na at an e­ar­lier Ge­or­ge mu­ni­ci­pal e­vent, he ar­ran­ged for her to en­ter­tain the play­ers. The ma­yor and Cl­lr Peter Louw, coun­cil­lor for Ward 5 (the ho­me of the club) pre­sen­ted the club with a che­que.

Club p­re­si­dent Ran­dal Ge­duld pro­mi­sed that they would do their ut­most in the co­ming com­pe­ti­ti­on. Vin­cent Moos, he­ad co­ach, said they star­ted the se­a­son full of bra­va­do and then lost their first ma­tch against Pa­calts­dorp. “We pray­ed and re­a­li­sed we will not be a­ble to ma­ke it al­o­ne. We put God first and use sport as a tool to ex­pand the King­dom of God.”
