Local golfers had a glorious day at the Rooirivierrif sports grounds last Saturday, 12 May, at a sponsored golf day for Cansa. Exciting prizes, a lucky draw, an auction and delicious boerewors rolls made it a family outing for members of the Garden Route Golf Club.

The men’s winner in the B-division was Rian Pienaar, with Anthony Sansom in the first place in the C-division. The winner in the women’s division was Karen Barnard.

Cansa’s Jackie Biljon is thankful for the continued support of the residents of George. “This golf day serves a dual purpose.

It is a fundraiser as well as an opportunity for Cansa to increase awareness in the community,” she said. Charles Steyn, club president of the Garden Route Golf Club, thanked the sponsors for their support. “The future of the golf club may be uncertain, but one thing is certain: the members do the right thing for the right reason,” he said. “You can feel the energy here today”. The George Herald reported earlier on a council decision to rent the premises to the Rooirivierrif

Sport Committee. It is uncertain whether the committee will manage the upkeep of the golf course. Up until now the course has been managed by the former lessee of the club house.
