Golf day for Can­sa held at Rooi­ri­vier­rif

Lo­cal gol­fers had a glo­ri­ous day at the Rooi­ri­vier­rif sports grounds last Sa­tur­day, 12 May, at a spon­so­red golf day for Can­sa. Ex­ci­ting pri­zes, a lucky draw, an aucti­on and de­li­ci­ous boe­re­wors rolls ma­de it a fa­mi­ly ou­ting for mem­bers of the Gar­den Rou­te Golf Club.

The men’s win­ner in the B-di­vi­si­on was Ri­an Pie­naar, with An­tho­ny San­som in the first pla­ce in the C-di­vi­si­on. The win­ner in the wo­men’s di­vi­si­on was Ka­ren Bar­nard.

Can­sa’s Jackie Bil­jon is thank­ful for the con­ti­nu­ed sup­port of the re­si­dents of Ge­or­ge. “This golf day ser­ves a du­al pur­po­se.

It is a fun­drai­ser as well as an op­por­tu­ni­ty for Can­sa to in­cre­a­se a­wa­re­ness in the com­mu­ni­ty,” she said. C­har­les S­teyn, club pre­si­dent of the Gar­den Rou­te Golf Club, than­ked the spon­sors for their sup­port. “The fu­tu­re of the golf club may be un­cer­tain, but one thing is cer­tain: the mem­bers do the rig­ht thing for the rig­ht re­a­son,” he said. “You can feel the e­ner­gy he­re to­day”. The or­ga­ni­sa­ti­on is a le­a­ding ro­le play­er in can­cer re­se­arch, spen­ding mo­re than R12-mil­li­on an­nu­al­ly. The s­cien­ti­fic fin­dings and kno­w­led­ge gai­ned from the re­se­arch is u­sed to as­sist in re-a­lig­ning the coun­try’s he­alth pro­gram­mes as well as streng­the­ning the wa­t­chdog ro­le to the be­ne­fit of the pu­blic.
