Motorbike mangled, biker suffers broken leg

- Kristy Kolberg

A motorcyclist can thank his lucky stars that he only sustained a broken leg after his bike was mangled during an accident in Beach Road, Pacaltsdorp, on Tuesday morning.

According to Pacaltsdorp police communications officer, Shadelle Fisher, the biker, driving towards Pacaltsdorp from the direction of George, lost control over his bike and hit an oncoming GO GEORGE bus on the driver's side. The bike ricocheted off the bus and collided head-on with an oncoming VW Citi Golf.

No other serious injuries were reported but the Golf and the bike were badly damaged.

George Municipality spokesperson, Chantel Edwards-Close, said that four passengers on the bus had indicated slight injuries and were also taken to hospital. No further information about their status is available at this stage.

"The accident did cause delays to the schedule while the damaged vehicle had to be removed from service and replaced by another bus. Substantial damage to several panels of the body of the bus will have to be repaired. Unfortunately this will take the bus out of service during this time," she said.

According to eyewitnesses who spoke to emergency services on the scene, the biker lost control of his bike and was thrown off before it collided with the bus.
