Friends of the Museum support local artists

A "Winter's Evening" was hosted by the Friends of the George Museum for the opening of the Retrospective Art Exhibition by the South Cape Association for Visual Arts (Scava).

Attendees listened attentively to several pleas for close cooperation between cultural organisations. Scava chairman Maura St.John said she was pleased to be able to curate the wonderful display of 200 pieces of art by nine regional artists. George portfolio councillor for Community and Social Development Services, Sean Snyman, announced a new initiative to create an art and cultural forum which would see many joint ventures. The free art exhibition featuring romantic wildlife, sports and landscape paintings will be open to the public for viewing until 19 August, after which the winner and the finalists in the Sanlam National Portraiture Competition will be displayed until 15 September. An official opening will be held on 21 August at 18:00 for the national exhibition.

Artists featured in the current exhibition include Johan Beukes (portraits of international sportsmen), Gill Doddington (watercolours), Keith Forrester (landscapes), Tersia Hoffmann (array of skills), Pauline Lourens (landscapes), Lynda Murison (modern art), Peter Savo (pyro techniques), Maura St.John (miniatures) and Ester Zonnenstein (wildlife).
