Ghost squad causes huge boohoo

- Kristy Kolberg

An accident involving a black VW Polo and a so-called ghost squad (GS) car, a white VW Golf, in front of Outeniqua Motors in Albert Street has tongues wagging. According to eyewitnesses it seemed that the GS vehicle was escorting a taxi down Albert Street towards York Street when things went slightly pear-shaped in the block between Cradock and Mitchell streets.

"The GS vehicle was driving in front of a taxi and it stopped the traffic at the intersection of Albert and Cradock streets (seemingly to allow their crossing). The taxi then passed the GS car, which gave chase. Shortly after, we heard a bang," an eyewitness told the George Herald.

"I'm not sure what happened, but when I drove past the scene I could see something had hit the back of the black Polo and the white GS vehicle was also standing on the side of the road." Byron la Hoe, spokesperson for the Department of Transport and Public Works, confirmed the incident. He said that no one was injured and traffic flow was also not disrupted.

"We will investigate the incident and undertake a possible vehicle damage claims process," he said.

Details surrounding the incident and what exactly happened could not be confirmed at the time of going to print.
