Stains were Mohapi’s blood
Blood found on the clothes of murder accused Phumlani Qusheka (28) matches the blood of the murdered 25-year-old Thembalethu mother of two, Hlompho Mohapi. This is what the court heard on Tuesday 21 August during the bail application of pastor Melisizwe Monqo (30) from King Williams Town, his fiancée Siphosihle Pamba (23) and Qusheka.
During the bail application, state prosecutor MP Heyns requested permission from Magistrate Phillip Mgwebile to recall the investigating officer, Detective Constable Thembekile Matwa, to the witness stand as new information has become available. Matwa handed in a report from the police's forensic laboratory in Cape Town that confirmed that the blood found on the clothes in Qusheka's bag when he was arrested in Knysna matched that of Mohapi.
The state is opposing bail in the case against all three murder suspects.
They have been in custody since they were arrested in July shortly after Mohapi's body was found dumped next to the Voëlklip road near Herold's Bay. Before her murder, two life insurance policies and a funeral policy were taken out on her life.
More policies of the same nature were allegedly taken out by Monqo and Pamba on other unsuspecting victims.
The defence team and the state prosecutor handed in their heads of argument to the Magistrate on Monday 20 August. The bail application will resume in the George Magistrate's Court tomorrow, 24 August.
