Le Bonhe’r turns five
Le Bonhe'r Cottage School for children with special needs is five years old this year. The school currently has seven full-time learners and a few who attend for an hour in the afternoons.
"It is with thankful hearts that we see children developing at their own pace and grow into self-disciplined youngsters who, with pride, face life," says Danita Botha, the headmaster. "We want to thank everybody who has been part of our journey up until now - all the students who helped us, the therapists and psychologists who work hand in hand with us."
Allison Upson, a special needs trained teacher, has recently joined the school, as well as Charl Joubert, a mathematics teacher who helps with extra classes for children up to Grade 12 in the afternoons. Together the two teachers and the two Unisa students form an inspiring team.
Le Bonhe'r accommodates learners who function between the main and remedial educational stream. The Caps programme is offered like in any other main stream school, but at a slower pace. The most general diagnosis of the learners in the school is high functioning children on the autistic spectrum, children with light epilepsy, ADHD, and more.
