Project Hope ignites optimism

The George Municipality's Project

Hope, an entrepreneurial project for the upliftment of women who overnight at the George Night Shelter, will exhibit their wares at the Eden FM Women on Fleek Expo to be held at the Thembalethu Thusong Centre from 10:00 to 18:00 on Saturday 25 August.

Project coordinator Estelle Fredericks says, "The project consists of unemployed women who are currently without an income or shelter. This group uses their hand skills including beading, crocheting and knitting to make products to sell."

The products are currently being sold at a stall in front of Standard Bank in York Street.

The revenue generated is used as income for the women, once the necessities to sustain the project have been purchased. This job creation project was initiated by Community Development to motivate people to start entrepreneurial projects to generate their own income and jobs.

People are encouraged to support the women at their stall in York Street. If the community wants to be involved in the initiative to uplift our community, you are more than welcome to make donations in the form of waste material, wool or even beads.
