Oppie Bol hosts successful golf fundraiser
Avid and amateur golfers enjoyed a fun day of golfing at George Golf Club on Thursday 16 August, to raise funds for
Oppie Bol Foundation. The players played in teams of four. Both able-bodied golfers and golfers with disabilities, as well as sponsors and stakeholders participated. Founders of Oppie Bol Foundation, David Hendricks and his sons Cazle, Romeo and Baldwin, were elated by the support and participation of players on the day.
Cazle, the chief executive officer of the foundation, said the objective of the day was to launch a regional structure of Oppie Bol Foundation to promote disability mainstreaming in the municipal area of George. "A stakeholder partnership between Oppie Bol and the local municipality is in discussion. This partnership will assist both parties to intensify the mainstreaming of programmes for persons with disabilities.
A current agreement with Joseph Booysen and the George Golf Club has been reached, whereby the local golf icon will assist the organisation with its golf development programme for, inter alia, persons with disabilities in the municipal area". George Municipality supported the event. Portfolio Councillor for Community Development and Social Services Sean Snyman said, as a person with a disability, he encourages awareness of disabilities in society. Snyman said sport should be seen as a uniting factor and tool.
The winners of the golf day were Joseph Booysen, Baldwin Hendricks, Melvin
Harold and Isaac Rondganger. Runners-up were Mario Du Toit, Wikus de Swardt, Albé de Swardt and Dawie Burger. In third place were Dolf Groenewald, Colin Rossouw, Zach Groenewald and Dean Fisher.
Each player received a goodie bag and a delicious meal was served during the prize-giving ceremony at the end of the day. Oppie Bol is a non-profit organisation and is therefore dependent upon funding from donors to attain and sustain its objectives. Their main objective is to advocate for people with disabilities and to empower disabled people. Oppie Bol thanks George Golf Club and sponsors Halfway Toyota, Protea Hotel King George by Marriott, Pine Lodge, King George Golf Club, Palm Tyres, Tiger Wheel and Tyre, The Pro Shop and the George Municipality.
