‘Bound’ helps shape children’s lives

-

People Against Substance Abuse (Pasa) has been most active in schools in the George area as well as Friemersheim over the past six months.

The founder, Freddy Trout, implemented their life skills programme, 'Bound', at two primary schools in George, one in Friemersheim and one in Kleinmond where Pasa has a branch. They reached 324 Grade 6 and 7 learners.

Trout also presented three one-day workshops to 42 parents. It is called 'The truth about substance abuse' and empowers parents with knowledge of drugs and how to avoid them, as well as how to identify key warning signs of substance abuse in children. Pasa also ran a workshop at PW Botha College with a group of peer educators at the school.

“These outreaches were made possible through a grant received from the National Lotteries Commission, which Pasa applied for in 2015,” says Trout.

“The grant was made available at the beginning of 2018 and enabled Pasa to acquire the much-needed material to be able to render their services.

“We would like to say a big thank you to the commission for the grant and to every person who attended the workshops. We would also like to say thank you to the parents for allowing us to impact your children's lives.”

Anyone who would like to contact Pasa regarding their programmes or who would like to invite them to do a talk or workshop, may contact their office on 044 150 0007 or send an e-mail to pasa@etime.co.za.
