SPCA top fundraising beneficiary

-

The Garden Route SPCA is the most successful beneficiary in the Garden Route of the MySchoolMyVillageMyPlanet fundraising programme.

The programme raises funds for schools, charities and environmental organisations through a card system that allows users to support their beneficiary every time they shop at one of the partner stores.

The partner store makes a contribution on behalf of the cardholder towards the selected beneficiary. Local representative Mariana Theron awarded the Garden Route SPCA the prize for being their most successful beneficiary in the area.

It also received awards for the "Beneficiary Organiser of the Year" and "Social Media Queen of the Year".

Management committee chairperson Wendy Jones said, "We feel honoured that so many people believe in us and our monumental struggle against animal cruelty and abuse. Sadly the number of mishandled and deliberately injured animals is growing at an unprecedented rate."

The George SPCA education centre will be opening shortly. It will focus on educating as many people as possible about correct and humane animal care.

"The proceeds we have received through the MySchoolMyVillageMyPlanet programme has helped us with furnishings and audiovisual equipment," said Jones. "The SPCA extends a heartfelt thanks to the volunteers who encourage and sign up new cardholders and app users with the SPCA as beneficiary. Without them we would not have achieved the top position."
