A cold front that made landfall on Saturday 27 June, hit the Garden Route with gale force winds, icy weather and rough seas last weekend.

Bath mat at large in a cold wet and windy Knysna

According to Knysna-Plett Herald journalist Blake Linder the weather that passed through Knysna during the weekend didn't simply pass through, it blew everyone away. Okay, maybe that's a little exaggerated, but Blake did lose a bath mat that had been hanging on the railing outside his flat. "I forgot to bring it in before the storm and when I went outside the next morning to take it down, it was gone with the wind. The bath mat remains at large," he said.

"Other than the strong winds, it was cold and wet in Knysna too, the perfect cocktail for miserable Cape winter weather. As much as everyone enjoys falling asleep to the pitter-patter of rain on a tin roof, I highly doubt anyone enjoys falling asleep to the sound of branches clattering against their house. There had been more than a few reports by Knysna residents of having trees blown over in their yards and branches flying everywhere. Luckily, no major infrastructure was damaged, and construction in Gray Street actually continued through the storm."
