More people referred to Petro SA quarantine facility in Mossel Bay
As Covid-19 cases are increasing in the Garden Route, more people are being referred to the PetroSA West Camp. The West Camp, which can accommodate 600 people, is for now the only isolation and quarantine facility in the Garden Route, but more facilities will be announced if and when the need arises or capacity is exceeded at this site.
There are currently 76 persons at the facility, says Nadia Ferreira, Western Cape Department of Health spokesperson.
"We have had many happy patients returning from this facility. Those staying here receive three meals a day and a daily visit from healthcare staff. They have access to safe and comfortable sleeping facilities and there is a laundry service," says Ferreira.
She says some people prefer not to make use of the facility as they simply don't want to be away from their family for so long (two weeks), especially where alternative care cannot be organised for family members who have to remain at home. For some it is simply too far from home, although transport to the facility is provided.
"Some people don't want to go, because they are unsure of what to expect at the facility."
She stressed that those who prefer to selfisolate or quarantine, must understand that they have a big responsibility to ensure that they do not have contact with other people so that they don't spread the virus.
