OBIE OBERHOLZER IN MOROCCO
HOW HE GOT THE SHOTS
Every December Obie goes to North Africa. On this trip he spent six days in Marrakech, then headed to the Atlantic coast, travelling parallel to the Atlas Mountains, and south to capture the landscapes of the Moroccan Sahara. He uses a Canon 5D Mark II and a Canon 6D. Each image has its own make-up: he carefully pre-plans the view angle, exposure and the design of the image. He mostly uses a tripod and usually doesn’t shoot more than three frames per scene. The art for him is to be able to visualise the final image, to see what the large, three-dimensional scene looks like in a reduced, smaller and abstracted form.
ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPHER
‘I travel to photograph and photograph to travel. On my many adventures, I’ve let my instincts take me rather than information from a guidebook.’ Obie has had 47 one-man exhibitions and published 12 photographic books.
