STAY VICTORIA FALLS SAFARI LODGE

This sprawling lodge offers luxurious accommodation in a wild setting. Part of Africa Albida Tourism, the hotel has received recognition over 21 consecutive years from the Association of Zimbabwe Travel Agents for being the country’s best safari lodge or resort hotel. Set on a plateau, with commanding views of the Zambezi National Park and the Victoria Falls just four kilometres away, the multi-storey lodge is built with thatch and timber, which makes staying here feel like you’re in an open-plan tree house. Guests are immersed in nature, as private balconies make it possible to watch animals at the nearby watering hole. Buffalo, elephant and kudu herds often come to drink and hyenas usually skulk into view as the sun sets. Game-watching can also be done from the comfort of the pool deck, from the viewing deck or even while you’re sipping a gin and tonic in the Buffalo Bar or dining at the MaKuwa-Kuwa restaurant. If you want to get a closer look, Siduli Hide, built to resemble a termite mound, is situated next to a watering hole and offers great cover for observing wildlife such as elephants, buffalo, warthogs, kudu, crocodiles, marabou storks, vultures and more. There’s also a bird hide on the property and various nature trails to enable you to immerse yourself in the bush and encounter a diversity of animal and plant life.

PLAY WILD HORIZONS

Wild Horizons has been offering adventure tours around Victoria Falls for 37 years. These range from adrenaline activities and wildlife tours to familyfriendly and cultural experiences. The zipline and ‘flying fox’ are particularly popular, as are the multi-day canoe safaris, tours of the Victoria Falls, white-water rafting and the gorge swing. For wildlife, Wild Horizons offers Big Five game drives, a bird-watching safari, a day trip to Chobe, a conservation safari, an elephant art safari (painting the jumbos in situ), a visit to an elephant sanctuary and orphanage, a rhino search, a Victoria Falls walking safari, a visit to the Zambezi Nature Sanctuary & Crocodile Ranch, fishing and twice-daily game drives in Zambezi Park. For a dose of culture, Wild Horizons offers a variety of experiences that will provide guests with a glimpse into Zimbabwean life. These include a tour of Chinotimba township, a Zimbabwean home-hosted meal and a village art tour, where you can participate in a workshop with a local artist. To make life easier, buy an activity package at wildhorizons.co.za.

The packages are made up of complementary experiences – for example, there’s an Adventure package and a Cultural Connection package. Wild Horizons has a transfer service that operates around flight and border gate times. You will be transferred in minibuses or coaches.
