’Tis the season for eating outdoors.

2 Lighthouse Rd, Umhlanga; 031 514 5000

Overlooking the Indian Ocean, this casualchic poolside venue is a beautiful way to spend a summer afternoon. We loved the crumbed calamari with peanut and chilli pesto (R140) starter, while the crayfish and monkfish au gratin (R490) and traditional curry buffet (R320) are fantastic mains.

1 Seaforth Ave, Umhlali; 032 815 0516

Take in the stunning view of the litchi orchard from this eatery’s refurbished shed as you delight in live music. Start with the bacon-wrapped jalapeño poppers (R58) and the seared tuna with mango salsa (R154) or a prosciutto, caramelised onion and Gorgonzola (R105) pizza for mains.

Killarney; 011 268 6144

Expect garden dining in a grand, modern setting at Killarney Country Club’s La Vie en Rose. Have high tea with the ladies (R265 p/p) or lunch – we recommend the sesame seed seared-beef stir-fry (R108) or the Lasting Impression burger (R113).

Naude Dr, Muldersdrift; 087 941 1223

Opening out onto a scenic garden, Casalinga’s outdoor seating is ideal for sun-soaked days enjoying authentic Italian cuisine. Go for the pan-fried pork wrapped in Parma ham (R135) or the gnocchi served in a sauce of your choice (R95).

121 Beach Rd, Mouille Point; 021 433 1757

What better way to indulge in sensational sushi than with the sea breeze on your face and the crash of the ocean in your ears? You’ll get all of this at the laidback Sotano, located just across the road from the Atlantic Ocean. Relax on café chairs on the sidewalk as you sample tempura prawn California rolls (R90 for eight), Asian soya salmon (R85) or seared tuna fashion sandwiches (R78 for six).

Cece Mcdonald

Transgender activist Cece was violently attacked in 2012 for being trans, fought back, then was put in prison for 19 months. She turned that injustice into advocacy for the transgender community. Watch her on Youtube – she has such poise and comedic timing.

audre lorde

Poet and activist Audre fought for equality from the 1960s until her death, in 1992. Her inspiring quotes have the power to pull me up out of bed.

rheanne White

Hairstylist She’s a close friend and an amazing mother, and treats hair as it should be treated: as self-expression and fun.

Sheryl Sandberg

CEO of Facebook In her book Lean In (Ebury Publishing; R230), Sheryl gave women a constructive guide for pushing feminism into the workspace. She also has the glossiest hair ever. She’s like the Connie Britton of the technology world.

Jenni Konner

Girls co-executive Jenni and I started a production company, A Casual Romance, founded on our belief that there aren’t enough projects re-examining gender in interesting ways. It seems like she has been my best friend since playschool. If she doesn’t SMS me for an hour, I think she’s dead.

Shirley Kurata

Stylist It took me a long time to find the people in Hollywood who understand me. Shirley and I share a sense that clothes are more than about looking sexy: they’re about humour and cultural commentary, and colour, colour, colour.

Megan ellison

Film producer Megan produces daring stories that don’t feature superheroes or dumb girlfriends. Having a dear friend who is my age, female and owns Hollywood like she’s Don Corleone has been more life-affirming than I can say.

ashley Ford

Writer Ashley and I fell in love via social media, and then she flew from Indiana to New York to meet me. We were both convinced that we were being catfished. Now Ashley writes for Buzzfeed, and everyone can read her pieces about gender, race and singer Kenny Loggins.

Shonda rhimes

Producer of Grey’s Anatomy, The Fixer and How to Get Away with Murder Shonda has taken over a full freaking day of the week with her addictive programming. She’s done it unapologetically. And The Fixer has made wine and popcorn seem like a viable, even healthy, meal.

isces Progress is on the horizon Although it’s easy to get carried away, you now need to get serious with your money, sit down and make a plan for your future. There is no point relying on a partner to do it for you – this will only take away the freedom you so richly desire. Treasure the work relationships you make right now, as people will lend a helping hand when times are hard. Fate is at work in your love life, so whatever is going on at the moment, take it seriously. Discuss any issues regarding sexual domination in the bedroom with your partner.

19 Feb-20 Mar

ancer Rethink your future You’ll find fun, creative ways to increase the amount of money you pull in every month, so take the time to consider which options are best for you. When it comes to your career, expect long hours at the office and after work as you’ll have more responsibilities on your plate. Relationships with family members look good; you’ll rely on their help close to 17-18 November. There’s also a disruption in your love life: either a current relationship will come to an end or you’ll meet a potential mate who’s exciting, mysterious and edgy.
