We wouldn’t mind a weekend getaway with this Candian singersongwriter, who has been active in the music industry since 2010. Citing icons Prince and Michael Jackson as his major influences, The Weeknd (aka Abel Makkonnen Tesfaye) says the latter inspired him to pursue a singing career.

We can’t fault his taste, but it was only with the release of the 26 year old’s second album, Beauty Behind the Madness, that people started to pay attention – including model Bella Hadid, whom he dated for over a year. The album was his first number one on the US Billboard 200, winning him a 2015 American Music Award for Favorite Soul/r&b Album and placing him in the 2017 Guinness World Records for Most Streamed Album on Spotify in One Year. As for his hit singles ‘The hills’ and ‘Can’t feel my face’, they reached number one on charts worldwide and held simultaneous top three positions on Billboard’s Hot R&B Songs chart, making The Weeknd the first ever artist to achieve this.

He further cemented his place among the bests last year when he won a Grammy for Best R&B Performance and for Best Urban Contemporary Album, and his song ‘Earned it’ was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song in Fifty Shades of Grey.
