The pros answer your questions

“MY FOUNDATION LOOKS CAKEY. HELP!”

-

Prep! “It’s important to prep your skin correctly before applying makeup,” says Areeba. Moisturise well for hydration then add a primer to give you glow. Wait “Allow your primer to soak in well before applying your base,” she adds. Be subtle “Avoid using concealer where you don’t need it.” Focus underneath your eyes and spots. Avoid powder “Don’t be tempted to use a compact powder for more coverage. It gives that cakey result,” she says.

“HOW DO I ACHIEVE BEYONCÉ-LEVEL FLAWLESSNESS?”

Layer up “I am a big fan of building up in layers; the more you treat your skin with skincare before applying your foundation, the less coverage you need,” says Lynsey. Start light “Use less foundation (in your true shade) and apply it with your fingers. Slowly build up your coverage in areas that need it with concealer and finish with a mist of setting spray,” says Derek. Buff “To build your base into a #Nofilter finish, use a buffing brush or sponge to get to areas that your fingers can’t,” says Caroline.

“WHAT TREND SHOULD I LOOK OUT FOR?”

Contouring “It’s been around for years, but it’s not going anywhere,” says Areeba. The latest look is more subtle though. Instead of creating deep shadows with darker shades, highlight your best features with strobing creams or highlighting shadows instead.
