“I was looking for a Staffie, so I visited a breeder in Benoni and spent some time with the puppies. There were about four of them in a cage. Bahati was so shy in her corner, and her eyes melted my heart. I couldn’t help myself. I love masculine dogs and think they’re pretty cool for a girl to own. And it turns out she shares her birthday with my little brother.

“Then there’s Mubi, a Brussels Griffon. I say he was adopted, but the truth is someone left him at my house – and he stole my heart with his cute snub nose. I remember the first two days were so awkward, because we couldn’t make out if he was happy or miserable – his face looks like an old man.”
